Returning Materials

Please return all items promptly. Because of our high circulation rate, we often schedule reservations for popular items very close together. If one user fails to return the item on time, it will not be available for the next user. Therefore, these rules will be strictly enforced.

We strongly recommend using United Parcel Service for return shipments if possible. If you believe your materials will not arrive by the due date, we encourage you to use a one-day service such as Overnight UPS, Airborne Express, Express Mail or Federal Express.

If you do use the US Postal Service, you must insure the package and we recommend using Priority Mail service and paying for a tracking number. Items are considered overdue even if they are shipped on time. Users who repeatedly return materials uninsured (if shipped using the US Postal Service) face suspension of borrowing privileges.

Whichever method of shipment you choose, be certain to keep your receipts for at least 90 days and be certain to pack and seal all packages carefully.

Overdue Materials

The due date is the date on which an item should be in our office. The first time a user fails to return materials within 5 working days (3 days for Tulane/Loyola patrons) of the due date will result in a warning. If more than five (or three) days late and the first offense OR the user is late returning materials a second time, then the user may have his or her borrowing privileges suspended two semesters. Suspension will be effective immediately, therefore any standing reservations will not be honored for the remainder of the suspension.

A user may renew borrowing privileges after the 2-semester suspension. In order to renew privileges, a returning user must fill out a new User’s Agreement. The first time a return user is late will result in permanent suspension of borrowing privileges.

Lost or Damaged Materials

User’s are responsible for the replacement cost of any materials lost or damaged while in their possession or during the return shipping they arranged. Many of our items are very valuable. To protect yourself please be sure to insure each item for at least $200.

Teaching Cuban Culture & Society: A K-12 Summer Educator Institute in Cuba

View Full Event Description

The Stone Center for Latin American Studies and the Cuban and Caribbean Studies Institute at Tulane University are proud to announce a two-week summer educator institute exploring the geography, culture and history of Cuba. For an educator, Cuba is rich with lessons to bring into the classroom. This program highlights the important historical and cultural connections between the United States and Cuba. Participants will explore key sites and meet local experts and artists who will provide unique insight for educators who teach such subjects as U.S./Latin American Relations, World Geography, World History, and Spanish among others. Come and visit the site of the historic Bay of Pigs, explore Milton Hershey’s sugar plantation and hear firsthand about the Cuban national literacy campaign from the teachers themselves.
