Director of the Cuban and Caribbean Studies Institute Ana López Weighs in on Cuban-U.S. Relationships

December 7th, 2017

Dr. Ana M. López, the director of the Cuban and Caribbean Studies Institute, Professor of Communication, and Associate Provost for the Office of Academic Affairs, recently spoke with The Washington Post and commented on the relationships between Cuban-American couples in light the current political climate. Before Trump’s presidency, the Obama administration normalized relations with Cuba in 2015. According to López, recent shifts in Cuban-U.S. policies means that these types of relationship between U.S. and Cuban couples will be less likely to emerge or become sustainable.
